The original kitchen ran the length of a long, narrow room with cream shaker doors, oak-effect worktops and carpet underfoot. It was tidy but tight. There was not enough storage for the way the household actually used the room, and not enough continuous worktop to prepare a meal comfortably.
The client came to the survey with a clear brief, which made the design stage straightforward. Drawers were the priority — deep, usable drawers rather than cupboards you have to kneel down to search. One request was very specific: a drawer beneath the larder oven, a spot that is often lost to a blank panel.
Beyond storage, the client wanted the room to feel bigger and brighter than it had. That pointed towards a light kitchen design: pale gloss doors, a light worktop, and a floor that would carry the eye down the length of the space rather than cutting it into sections.
